False Alarm Help False Alarms
False Alarms
I have continual false alarms.

If you have been experiencing continual false alarms, then your system probably is in need of servicing. If you have had your system serviced and the problem persist, then you need to find a different alarm company to service your system because the problem has not been properly addressed.

Common causes of false alarms in fire alarm systems:

  • Smoke detector false alarms --- If you are having false alarms in smoke detectors, here are some tips to help address this problem. 1. How old are the smoke detectors? Over time smoke detectors can become contaminated, and may need to be replaced.  2.  Where is the culprit detector/s located? Following these guidelines can be of help.  They should never be placed closer than within 3 feet of air conditioner vents.  They should not be placed above sinks, autoclaves, cooking equipment, or other appliances that create steam.  They should not be placed in areas that are not environmentally controlled, like patios, or outdoors.  Smokes should not be used in vehicle bays, or areas where motor vehicles are operated even for a short period of time.
  • Duct detector false alarms --- If you are having false alarms in duct detectors, here are some tips to help address this problem.  These devices are the most common cause of false alarms in our experience with fire alarm systems.  The best way to to address false alarms in duct smoke detectors is to prevent them before they begin. You can do this by having your buildings air conditioning systems maintained vigorously. Have the filters checked and replaced regularly to prevent excessive dust from accumulating in the building. Once false alarms start occurring on duct smoke detectors, the detector itself will need to be cleaned, and this can only be done by a qualified person as the units are normally very difficult to access.
  • Pull Station false alarms --- If you are having false alarms in pull stations, here are some tips to help address this problem.  1. Pull station false alarms unfortunately are the result of mischievous behavior in most cases.  Typical places for these false alarms are: schools, rehab centers, daycare centers, etc.  There are ways to stop these false alarms from occurring. We have a device known as a false alarm stopper, however before the installation of these devices you would need to get permission from the local fire marshal, or fire department.  The device is a plastic cover with a built in sounder that has to be removed to access the pull station.  When the cover is removed the sounder goes off to alert others in the area that the pull station is being accessed, and to startle the person tampering with the station. Extra training is required for building occupants to create familiarity with these devices because they do make it more difficult to actually operate the pull station.
  • Heat detector false alarms --- If you are having false alarms heat detectors, here are some tips to help address this problem.               Continual false alarms with heat detectors would require that either an adjustment be made to the heat detector (if capable), or the heat detector would need to be replaced with a different model that has either a fixed temperature design, or a higher activation threshold.
